Who We AreThe Microbiological Diagnostics Assessment Service is ISO9001 certified to undertake evaluations and reviews of diagnostic kits, equipment and healthcare products relevant to microbiology [BSI certificate FM40240]. Our evaluations consist of 50 stages from start to completion. We undertake evaluations for manufacturers and our work is carried out in association with the National Blood Service and the World Health Organisation. Evaluations are either undertaken at the Health Protection Agency Centre for Infections or at other HPA or NHS sites. History The origins of the Microbiological Diagnostics Assessment Service date from 1985 when it was asked by the then Medical Devices Directorate to evaluate the first commercial kits for detection of antibody to HIV. Evaluations were undertaken within the PHLS Virus Reference Division until February 2003 when the work was transferred into the HPA Department for Evaluations, Standards and Training.
