Commercial Evaluations: Information for Companies
The Microbiological Diagnostics Assessment Service (based at the HPA) offers independent comparative
evaluation of diagnostic kit performance for companies.
Types of assessment offered
Manufacturers often request our services for the following reasons:
- To assess how their product compares with competitors
- To check how a pre-launch product performs against known samples
- To compare old and new kit versions
- To provide an indication of seroconversion sensitivity
- To provide part of the data required for regulatory examination
We are IS09001 certified for evaluation and review of diagnostic kits, equipment and healthcare products
relevant to microbiology [BSI certificate FM40240]

Current evaluation call
The Health Protection Agency would like to invite companies to take part in a new comparative evaluation of HIV screening kits (e.g. microplate EIAs and automated systems).
The evaluation will incorporate more recent seroconversion panels and enable the generation of an updated comparative HIV ‘timing chart’ for the detection of primary infection. Please email the names of kits and expressions of interest to midas@hpa.org.uk
